Matt Garza Would ‘Pitch on the Freaking Moon,’ Not Afraid of American League East

Trade speculation can get to some players. Not Matt Garza.

The right-hander made it clear that he's willing to pitch anywhere, even if that involves hopping on a space shuttle.

Garza, whose name will undoubtedly be tossed around in trade talks as Theo Epstein looks to rebuild the Chicago Cubs, understands the nature of the business, having been dealt twice before. He was traded by the Twins and Rays before landing in Chicago, and if he's moved again, it won't make a difference.

"I just want to keep playing. It doesn't matter where. I'll pitch on the freaking moon," Garza said, according to WEEI.com. "I love the city. My kids love the city. It would be a great place for them to grow up. But like I said, it's out of my control."

Garza reportedly noted that he views trade speculation as a compliment, because that means he's still doing his job.

The 28-year-old, who has a solid track in the bigs, has failed to get run support for most of this season, though. He enters the Cubs' weekend series with the Red Sox with a 2-5 record and a 4.04 ERA in 12 starts. But despite the lack of run support, the righty is remaining confident, even if he's eventually moved to the slugger-packed American League East.

"I'd love to stay here, but if that's not in [Epstein's] plans, then so be it. I just want to keep playing," Garza reportedly said. "The AL East doesn't scare me a bit. Everywhere I go, it's a blast."

Garza is 54-59 with a 3.85 ERA over the course of his seven-year big league career.
