Santonio Holmes Has ‘Mini-Meltdown’ at Jets Practice After Complaining That Coaches Were Overworking Him

The New York Jets are always doing something.

Santonio Holmes is the latest of Gang Green to make waves, this time for reportedly throwing a fit and having a “mini-meltdown” during practice. The wide receiver appeared to think that the Jets coaches were unfairly overworking him, singling him out after missing voluntary workouts earlier in the summer.

Holmes threw his helmet while limping off the field, and also had words with wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal.

“I was talking to the coach, letting him understand it was too many reps today,” Holmes told reporters. “I’ve been gone for a while, so I can’t be at full tempo like the rest of the guys and where they want us to be at.”

Head coach Rex Ryan admitted that he didn’t have a problem with Holmes’ actions, saying that he spoke with Lal and trainers about limiting the receiver’s workload.

“If a guy thinks he’s tight … you don’t want a guy pulling [a muscle,]” Ryan stated. “He knows his body better than anybody.”

Holmes, 28, caught 51 passes for 654 yards last season.
