Report: Celtics Inquire About Marcus Camby, Who Has Boston on Short List of Potential Teams

Marcus Camby is a New England guy, so perhaps he’ll want to return to his roots to finish off his NBA career.

Camby, who is currently a free agent, has narrowed down his list of potential teams to six choices, one of which is the Boston Celtics, according to CSNNW.com. The Knicks, Heat, Spurs, Mavericks and Rockets are reportedly also on Camby’s list.

All of those teams have reportedly called Camby’s agent to inquire about the 38-year-old’s services, and he apparently wants to play for a contender, meaning Boston could be an intriguing option.

Camby, drafted second overall in 1996, will be entering his 17th NBA season, but he is still a solid shot blocker and rebounder. He averaged 4.9 points and 9 rebounds in 22.9 minutes per game split between Portland and Houston last season. For his career, Camby has averaged 9.7 points and 9.9 rebounds in 30 minutes per contest.

A Hartford, Conn., native, Camby attended UMass, where he took the Minutemen to the Final Four in 1996. That appearance has since been officially nullified by the NCAA, though, as it was determined that Camby had accepted $28,000 from two sports agents.

The 6-foot-11 big man won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award during the 2006-07 season.
