Report: Penn State to Take Down Joe Paterno Statue This Weekend

The statue is coming down.

According to Kimberly Jones of NFL Network, Penn State will remove the Joe Paterno statue this weekend.

People were calling for the statue to come down following the release of the Freeh report, which independently reviewed whether Penn State officials knew about the abuse claims and how much they did to stop the crimes committed by Jerry Sandusky.

In the report, FBI director Louis Freeh and his staff came to the conclusion that, “the most powerful men at Penn State failed to take any steps for 14 years to protect the children who Sandusky victimized.”

Bonnie Bernstein confirmed the report, saying “Penn State Board of Trustees voted on a conference call [Thursday] night to take down Joe Paterno statue. Will happen this [weekend].”

Earlier this week, a plane carrying a banner demanding the statue be taken down flew over Beaver Stadium. “Take down the statue or we will,” the banner read.
