Cleveland Cavaliers Promotions Mock Apocalypse Predictions, Pay Homage to ‘A Christmas Story’ (Photo)

The Cleveland Cavaliers managed only 21 wins in 66 games last season, but never let it be said that their marketing department is not filled with winners.

The Cavs promotional schedule this season is chock-full of events and giveaways that would make even LeBron James wish he were at Quicken Loans Arena. The highlight is either the Mayan Calendar Survivors Night on Dec. 21 or the miniature bobble leg lamp on Dec. 5, depending on how much fans like to poke fun at the crazy believers in an imminent apocalypse or if they just happen to be big fans of the classic movie A Christmas Story.

Interspersed with the usual arena giveaways — schedule magnets, T-shirts, bobbleheads — are a few other creative promotions. The first 10,000 fans to arrive at the Jan. 5 game against Houston get a Cavs scarf to help shield them from those frigid Ohio winter nights, and after the Feb. 27 game against the Raptors adult fans will be allowed to come onto the court and shoot free throws — because why should kids have all the fun?
