Report: Terry Francona, Sandy Alomar Jr. Expected to Interview This Week for Indians’ Managerial Job

Terry Francona appears to be dipping his toes in the water, and could soon take the plunge back into the world of managing.

Francona and Sandy Alomar Jr. are expected to interview for the Indians' managerial opening late this week, according to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Alomar is currently serving as the Indians' interim manager in the wake of Manny Acta's firing, and many have considered him a manager-in-waiting. Francona would be returning to the coaching scene after a year working as an ESPN analyst if he opts to manage again.

Francona and Alomar are believed to be the only two candidates interviewing for the gig thus far, and it could ultimately be a two-horse race. ESPN's Buster Olney wonders, however, if Francona will command more than the Indians will be willing to pay.

Alomar spent 20 seasons in the big leagues, including 11 with Cleveland. He entered the coaching ranks in 2008, and has interviewed for a few managerial positions in the past. We'll soon see if the Tribe value his potential enough to consider him over a two-time World Series champion.
