Red Sox Trade Reliever Sandy Rosario to Athletics for Future Considerations

The Red Sox announced that they have traded reliever Sandy Rosario to the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday for future considerations  — either a player to be named later or cash.

A 27-year-old who spent the majority of 2012 toiling in Triple-A for the Miami Marlins, Rosario put together a pretty good campaign in the minors. The right-hander yielded just three runs in 26 innings with New Orleans of the Pacific Coast league, converting 16 saves in the process.

Rosario was claimed via waivers by the Red Sox on Oct. 17 before being designated for assignment on Nov. 20. He is currently with Gigantes del Cibao of the Dominican Winter League, and has appeared in 10 games. Last season, he appeared in four games for the Marlins, yielding eight hits and six earned runs in three innings.
