Jimmy Vesey is no longer just a standout freshman at Harvard and a third-round pick of the Nashville Predators. He’s a gold medalist.

Vesey helped lead Team USA win the title at the World Junior Championship in Russia, even jumping to the squad’s first line after some solid play. The North Reading, Mass., native could have NHL glory in his future, but Saturday’s victory in the gold medal contest is definitely worth savoring.

NESN was on hand to watch the gold medal game with Vesey’s family, and the scene was intense. Once the final horn sounded, there was not only a great deal of relief, but also plenty of jubilation.
