Still, Curry’s 54-point explosion Wednesday in New York served as a perfect reason to revisit the biggest snub of Curry’s basketball career. After earning all-state honors as a senior at Charlotte Christian School, the son of former NBA sharpshooter Dell Curry received zero scholarship offers from major Division I colleges. He received offers from Davidson, Winthrop and Virginia Commonwealth, with Virginia Tech — his father’s alma mater — saying, sure, come on down to Blacksburg, Va.
As a walk-on.
What Wardell Stephen Curry II did at Davidson, leading the Wildcats to the Elite Eight, turned out to be historic, and the Warriors took a relative gamble by taking him with the seventh pick in the 2009 NBA draft. Four years later, it seems the Warriors made the right decision — and that North Carolina, Duke, Virginia Tech and others made the wrong one.
