Report: Devin McCourty Underwent Offseason Shoulder Surgery, Should Be Ready for Training Camp

Devin McCourty played an integral role in the turnaround of the Patriots’ secondary last season, and it appears he did so while injured.

McCourty underwent shoulder surgery earlier this offseason, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston, but is expected to be healed up and ready in time for the start of training camp.

The surgery reportedly occurred soon after the Patriots’ loss in the AFC Championship Game and was considered a routine procedure.

McCourty played through a separated right shoulder during parts of the 2011 season, but there is no inclination yet if that was the shoulder fixed in surgery.

After playing cornerback for much of his first two seasons, McCourty switched to safety midway through 2012 and excelled in the new role. The Patriots added veteran safety Adrian Wilson earlier this offseason to a group that already included Steven Gregory and Tavon Wilson.
