Jackie Bradley Jr. seems to be well on his way to becoming the next fan favorite at Fenway Park.
Fans and media members alike are rooting for the 22-year-old prospect to make the bigs when camp breaks, as he brings a complete set of tools to the lineup. Well, almost a complete set of tools, according to one scout.
Rangers scout and former big leaguer Tom Giordano, 83, told WEBN’s Trevor Savage that while Bradley “has a lot of ability,” but he doesn’t come with the speed he was hoping to see.
“I’m a little surprised that he doesn’t run better. I know he can run but I was led to believe he was a burner,” the long-time baseball executive explained.
Giordano was responsible for the Orioles drafting Cal Ripken Jr. while serving as scouting and player development director with the O’s in the late-1970s. 2010 marked his 63rd season in organized baseball, when he served as senior advisor to the general manager of the American League champion Texas Rangers.
