Ray Charles just wants to be treated as a regular dog.
Like his Facebook fan page says, the blind golden retriever “can run and play and do everything else other dogs that can see do,” and it seems as if he’s done just that since his birth on Dec. 8, 2012.
Now, however, it seems the retriever, who was voted as “Dog of the Week” by Modern Dog Magazine in April, is ready to check an item off his bucket list.
Ray lives in Boston with his owners and, if his Facebook photos are any indication, has become quite the Bruins fan. He has a B’s hat and jersey, but more than that, presumably also has a dream — to drop the puck at a Bruins home playoff game. And there’s an online petition that is trying to make it happen.
“An avid Boston Bruins fan, Ray would like to drop the puck at a Bruins home game and we need your help to make this happen,” the petition says. “For all the joy he has brought us, it seems only fair that we take a few moments to sign his petition.
“Ray Charles may not have his sight, but we can still show him how much he means to all of us! Help Ray Charles drop the puck at a Boston Bruins game and keep helping to enrich the wonderful dog’s life!”
The petition has already collected more than 1,000 signatures since going live on Sunday and has a goal of 2,000. If — and likely when — the petition hits that mark, it will be up to Bruins management to make it happen. The team has at least two more home games remaining as the Eastern Conference finals start up this weekend.
