Andy Pettitte Passes Whitey Ford, Becomes Yankees’ All-Time Strikeout Leader (Video)

Andy Pettitte has had a great career, with 250 regular-season wins to show for it, and another 19 during the playoffs. The longtime Yankee is doing it again at age 41, as a serviceable starting pitcher on a New York team ravaged by injuries.

For all the great accomplishments in Pettitte’s distinguished career, however, perhaps none are more impressive than the mark he attained Monday.

With a strikeout of the Twins’ Justin Morneau in the fifth inning of Monday’s game, Pettitte put down his 1,958th career batter, passing Whitey Ford for tops all-time among Yankees pitchers. Ford had 236 wins over a 16-year career, and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1974. Will Pettitte follow him to Cooperstown when his career is done?

Check out a video of Pettitte’s historic strikeout, and the man himself speaking to reporters after the game, below.
