Brazilian Soccer Player Willigton Smith Kicks Opponent in Face, Gets 14-Game Ban (Video)

When soccer teams around the world import strikers from Brazil, they think they’re getting skill, flair and goals.
Brutality is rarely a selling point, but that could change.

Willigton Smith, a Brazilian playing in Peru’s second division for Alianza Universidad, has gained infamy after he kicked an opponent in the face during a recent game.

In the 13th minute of Alianza Universidad’s 1-0 win over Deportivo Municipal, Smith and Deportivo Municipal defender Omar Cuya were chasing after a loose ball. Smith arrived first and kicked it away, but he left his foot high enough to meet Cuya’s face at full speed.

The referee gave Smith a red card, but that was the least of his punishment. The Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) banned the Brazilian striker for 14-games, which should give him plenty of time to think about what he did.
