It seems that no one gave the cameraman the memo that there was a flying tire rolling directly toward his head.
Red Bull driver Mark Webber turned into the pit lane for a tire change and took off before his right rear tire was fully attached. The tire flew off and bounded down the pit before colliding with Paul Allen, a cameraman for FOM, Formula 1’s in-house broadcaster.
Allen remained conscious after the collision but suffered a concussion and is experiencing chest pain, according to the BBC. He was treated at the on-site medical center, then taken to Koblenz Hospital by helicopter. Allen remains at the hospital under observation.
Red Bull was fined $38,650 for an unsafe pit stop release following the incident.
