Pedroia inked an eight-year, $110 million contract extension with the Red Sox on Wednesday, and the signing is a unique one for the Red Sox. The team wouldn’t go so far as to call Pedroia a “franchise player,” but the contract shows a measure of confidence in the second baseman.
