Red Sox’ Twitter Account Tweaks Rays, Looks Forward to September ‘Home Games’ in Tampa Bay

Now, this is how to use Twitter.

Tension was high Monday between the Red Sox and the Rays, who played a makeup game to finish off a taut four-game set that started last Monday. That series was competitive enough, but Monday’s game took on heightened importance after the Rays temporarily snatched the American League East lead during the interlude between the teams’ meetings.

On Monday night, the AL East lead was on the line again as the two teams faced each other once more. That contest ended with controversy thanks to a blown call at home plate.

The Rays left Fenway Park with the division lead and some bragging rights, which they uncorked before the teams had barely left the field after the game.

The Red Sox’ Twitter account was not to be outdone, though. It had a pretty good response up its sleeve, giving a nod to the Rays’ lack of fan interest in recent years despite Tampa’s rise in the division.

This rivalry is starting to get fun. The Rays and Red Sox meet next — in Tampa, of course — for three games on Sept. 10-12.
