Report: Matt Garza Traded to Rangers, Will Not Start for Cubs Monday Night

The best starting pitcher on the sparse MLB trade market has been snapped up.

Matt Garza, who was rumored to be headed to the Rangers before trade talks appeared to crumble over the weekend, is at last headed to Texas, according to reports. FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal says Garza will not pitch Monday night for the Cubs with the trade pending, while Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan confirms that Garza is going to the Rangers.

Passan says the Cubs will get Mike Olt, C.J. Edwards, Justin Grimm and a player to be named later in return.

The Red Sox were said to be interested in Garza, as he was the best high-level starter available with the trade deadline approaching. But, with Clay Buchholz’s injury now said to not be serious enough to portend long-term damage, Boston likely needs more bullpen help and can get by without giving up a lot of prospects for a few months of work out of Garza.

Garza is 6-1 this season with a 3.17 ERA.
