Bears Tight End Martellus Bennett Compares His Moves to Muhammad Ali

Martellus Bennett‘s long strides on the football field make it seem as if he’s floating at times. His floating can be so elusive it may warrant comparisons to a butterfly, or even Muhammad Ali.

Bennett was the big hero for the Chicago Bears on Sunday, catching a touchdown in the final minute to help propel the Bears past the division rival Vikings to move to 2-0 on the season. The score was one of two on the afternoon for the big tight end, who played a big role in the Bears’ fourth quarter comeback win.

On the play before Bennett’s game-winning score, the 6-foot-6 tight end made a 23-yard catch and run where he juked a Vikings defender almost out of his shoes to get a first down. The move was swift and effective, just like “The People’s Champ.”

“They told me, ‘Man how are you so slippery, you’re so big?'” Bennett said, according to CBS Chicago. “I was like, ‘I’m Muhammad Ali out here.'”

The self-proclaimed Black Unicorn (some context here) explained the comparison in further detail after the game.

“You ever try to catch a butterfly with your hands? You can’t do it. You need a net,” Bennett said. “They have butterfly nets made just for catching butterflies. Hopefully they don’t make unicorn nets, just for catching unicorns out there. Especially black ones.”

It’s doubtful there are any nets big enough to catch a guy as big as Bennett, but, even if there were, he’d probably float away too fast for them anyway.
