Brandon Lloyd‘s decision not to play in the NFL this season may be coming a bit more into focus.

Lloyd, who had reportedly turned down inquiries to play in the NFL this season, is now doing some acting. His first appearance is in the straight-to-DVD zombie thriller After Effect alongsideĀ Daniel Baldwin. The movie is set to be released Oct. 8.

The plot features a group of college students who sign up for a research study only to realize they’re actually involved in a military experiment, according to IMDB. Lloyd plays Sgt. Chuck Lloyd in the film and gets to carry around some heavy artillery, at least by the looks of the trailer.

Lloyd, 32, was cut by the Patriots during the offseason, which let the team avoid a $3 million roster bonus due to the veteran receiver. He caught 74 passes for 911 yards and four touchdowns for the Patriots in 2012. As many as six teams have shown interest in signing Lloyd, which may or may not have included the Patriots, but the receiver appears to be settled on retirement.
