Patriots’ Issues on Defense Can Be Blamed on Short Rest, Struggles on Offense Are Bigger Problem (Video)

FOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots’ win over the Jets was ugly on multiple levels.

The offense couldn’t move the ball and the defense was back to its bend, but don’t break, tendencies. While some of those issues — especially some of the defense’s first-half problems — can be blamed on the short rest, there are some that will only be fixed with time and the mending of injuries.

Tom Brady and the offense are going to struggle until some of the big pieces start to come back. Until then, they are likely to struggle and the defense is going to have to keep bailing them out.

That’s what happens when three of the team’s four biggest weapons are down with ailments. Luckily for the Patriots, their defense is playing better than it has in years. There were issues throughout the game, but they stepped up when it mattered most to put the game away.
