Red Sox Recall Allen Webster From Triple-A Pawtucket to Help Bolster Bullpen

The Red Sox added a piece to their bullpen Sunday.

Allen Webster has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket, and he’ll join Boston’s relief corps after spending much of the season in his normal starting role.

Webster made six starts with the Red Sox earlier this year and started 21 games with Pawtucket before finally transitioning to the bullpen during the PawSox’ playoff series against the Rochester Red Wings.

Webster, who pitched a scoreless inning in relief for Pawtucket on Wednesday, went 1-2 with a 9.57 ERA in his six starts with Boston earlier this season. He showed flashes of his potential, but was shaky for the most part. In his last start with the Red Sox on July 9, Webster lasted just 2 1/3 innings while giving up seven runs to the Mariners.

The 23-year-old went 8-4 with a 3.60 ERA with Pawtucket this season, including 3-1 with a 2.56 ERA over his final eight starts.

The Red Sox’ active roster stands at 32 players following the move.
