Report: Florida Panthers Offer Tim Thomas Professional Tryout, Give Him Deadline of Wednesday to Decide on Offer

The Florida Panthers are in the market for a goaltender, and they are turning to Tim Thomas to hopefully fix their woes between the pipes.

The Panthers have reportedly offered the two-time Vezina Trophy winner a professional tryout, and Thomas will have until Wednesday to decide on the offer. Thomas has been in talks with multiple teams, but has said to be “closing in” on a decision.

The Panthers announced this week that backup goalie Scott Clemmensen would be sidelined for three weeks after undergoing a knee procedure. Jacob Markstrom is projected to become Florida’s starting goaltender after the team opted not to re-sign Jose Theodore, but the 25-year-old is coming off a shaky season, posting a  8-14-1 record with a 3.22 GAA.

Although Thomas sat out the entirety of the 2013 season, Thomas’ agent has made it clear that he wants to be the starting goaltender, not the backup.
