If Stevens were to name a captain, however, his pick would be Rajon Rondo.
“I’ve never done official captains,” Stevens told reporters after Wednesday’s preseason loss to the Knicks. “If that’s something that’s important or we need to do or we need to talk about, then we can do that.
“[Rondo is] the guy that sits in the middle when we stretch, he’s the guy that’s been here, he’s done that. So if we had to name one, he’d be the one.”
Rondo is out until at least December as he recovers from February surgery on his partially torn ACL. He has never been a captain in his seven-year career, since Paul Pierce had a stranglehold on that spot for 13 seasons. But being a captain could be good practice for Rondo’s potential future in coaching.
