The Boston Red Sox will begin the 2013 World Series on Wednesday night in front of their home fans at Fenway Park, but to capture the franchise’s eighth championship, they will need to overcome a St. Louis Cardinals team that has very few weaknesses.
In Boston’s six-game triumph over the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS, it faced a team with great starting pitching and a weak bullpen. But in the Cardinals, the Sox will take on a club with a strong pitching staff that excels in all areas.
The Sox will face the Cardinals’ top two starters in the opening games at Fenway Park, with Adam Wainwright and rookie sensation Michael Wacha taking the mound for Game 1 and Game 2, respectively. These two pitchers have combined for a 5-1 record and a 1.00 ERA this postseason.
Check out David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia and other Red Sox players talking about their matchup with St. Louis in the video above.
