James Taylor Messes Up, Starts ‘America the Beautiful’ Instead of National Anthem But Salvages Both (Video)

Not everything went as planned Thursday night at Fenway Park. But James Taylor, who has always shown that a good song can change anything, didn’t let that keep him from leaving a memorable performance on the field.

Taylor was called on to sing two songs at Game 2 of the World Series: the National Anthem and then “America the Beautiful” during the seventh inning. When it was time for “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the game, though, he jumped right into “America the Beautiful” before quickly catching himself and pivoting to the National Anthem.

The blunder wasn’t too noticeable, as it was an almost-seamless transition for a man who has likely had to think on his feet on big stages before. He ended up pulling off the rest of the song without a problem, and it didn’t overshadow his seventh-inning special, which was memorable on many levels.

He also left a valuable lesson for all Boston sports fans: Even if there’s a little hiccup, just keep bringing your A-game. One bad moment doesn’t have to determine a series.
