Tyler Seguin, Brad MarchandThe Brad Marchand-Tyler Seguin bromance came to a screeching halt over the summer when the Bruins traded the former No. 2 overall pick to the Dallas Stars.

Marchand, who has a place comfortably on the Bruins second line next to Patrice Bergeron and opposite Loui Eriksson (the main piece of the Seguin trade puzzle), took the move professionally, as he understands this game is a business.

That doesn’t mean he wasn’t shocked.

“I think it might have freaked everyone out,” Marchand told 98.5 The Sports Hub on Thursday, just hours before the B’s host the Lightning in their season opener.

“A guy with his talent and his capabilities and his contract, it’s a big deal,” he added. “He was supposed to be one of the core guys here and be here for a long time and he gets shipped out, it’s a big eye opener. It’s a rude awakening, it shows you can’t take anything for granted here. You have a bad half-year then it could be enough to ship you out, so I don’t want that to be the case.”
