Tom Wilson forgot to keep his head on a swivel Tuesday night.
The Capitals rookie turned in the best performance of his young career in a 6-2 rout of the Islanders, tallying a goal and an assist for his first NHL points (and narrowly missing out on a Gordie Howe hat trick when he turned down a fight with Isles bruiser Matt Carkner in the closing minutes).
That output led a sizable media scrum to surround Wilson after the game, and Caps star Alex Ovechkin, who scored two goals of his own in the game, took advantage of the distracted 19-year-old. Ovechkin snuck up behind the winger and smacked him with a shaving cream pie to the face, laughing hysterically as Wilson struggled to wipe the gel from his eyes.
Welcome to the league, rookie.
