In 2009, the only sports offered to Boston public middle school students were basketball and track. Now, more than 1,000 students are able to participate in sports thanks to Play Ball, a non-profit organization that provides athletic opportunities to 19 schools across the city.

On Friday, the Frederick Middle School Panthers football team participated in the city championship thanks to Play Ball, and it’s clear the team’s players get much more out of the program than just exercise.
