Grant Balfour Insists He’s Healthy, Says Orioles Are ‘Making a Mistake’ Pulling Offer Off Table

Things seem to have turned sour between Grant Balfour and the Orioles.

Balfour reportedly agreed to a two-year, $15 million contract with the O’s, but once the team examined an MRI on Balfour’s right throwing shoulder, Baltimore nixed the deal at the last minute — despite the fact that Balfour, backed up by two reputable doctors, says he’s fully healthy.

Once the O’s decided to shop for other options, Balfour initially resigned himself to that fact. Then he changed his tune. After saying that he didn’t want to bad-mouth anyone, Balfour then told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle what went down on his end of the deal.

Balfour is reportedly considering filing a grievance with the team over the nullified deal considering the fact that Rays team physician Koco Eaton and Reds team doctor Timothy Kremcheck agree that Balfour’s throwing shoulder looks healthy.

Balfour remains on the free agent market for any team looking for an All-Star closer.
