Boston Bruins Recall Defenseman Zach Trotman From Providence

The Boston Bruins have recalled 23-year-old defenseman Zach Trotman from the team’s AHL affiliate in Providence on an emergency basis, the team announced Sunday evening.

Trotman has appeared in one game at the NHL level this season (Dec. 29 against the Ottawa Senators). He got 16:41 of ice time and recorded three shots on goal in that game. Trotman has tallied 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 32 games with the Providence Bruins this year. He’s a quality skater with good playmaking skills and a willingness to play physical in the defensive zone.

The former seventh-round draft pick was a healthy scratch on Sunday before Providence took on the Wilkes-Barre Penguins. This move led to speculation that he would be recalled by the Bruins after veteran defenseman Adam McQuaid suffered an undisclosed injury against the Chicago Blackhawks earlier in the afternoon and didn’t return to the game.

Boston’s next game is Monday afternoon against the Los Angeles Kings at TD Garden.
