The Brooklyn Nets got some inspiration from the New York borough’s rich sports history for the team’s newest alternate home jerseys.

On Sunday, the Nets unveiled the sleeved jersey, which have a similar look and color scheme to the former Brooklyn, current Los Angeles Dodgers grey road uniforms. The look is close, even down to the blue lettering and piping around the collar.

“Blue is one of the official colors of Brooklyn, so we are proud to connect the Nets with the borough’s storied tradition,” Nets and Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark said in a statement, via the Wall Street Journal. There was no specific mention of the Dodgers’ connection, but that didn’t stop Nets players from putting two and two together.

“I like the jerseys, personally,” point guard Deron Williams said Friday. “I like the concept — the Brooklyn Dodgers aspect of it.”

“I thought it was pretty cool,” swingman Joe Johnson agreed. “I think it’s a tribute to the Brooklyn Dodgers, so I think they’ll be cool.”

The Nets will don the alternate jerseys when they host the Boston Celtics on March 21 at the Barclays Center.
