Jerryd BaylessJust as the Celtics have gotten some point guard reinforcements, they could be shorthanded at the position once again.

Jerryd Bayless, the journeyman combo guard who came to Boston from Memphis in a trade for Courtney Lee, is unlikely to play Tuesday against the Miami Heat with a sprained big toe, Celtics coach Brad Stevens told reporters on Monday. With Rajon Rondo expected to be on a minutes restriction again in his third game back from a torn ACL, the Celtics are already stretched at the point.

Bayless, who left Sunday’s game against the Orlando Magic after he got tangled up with Glen Davis while fighting over a screen, sounded less committal about his absence, but he told reporters he “probably” will not play against the Heat.

Bayless being sidelined likely means even more playing time for Phil Pressey. The undrafted rookie out of Missouri has played more than 22 minutes in each of the last three games, going more than two full games without a turnover while handing out 19 assists. Pressey had a tougher time in Orlando on Sunday, when he recorded five assists but shot 1-for-7 from the field and turned the ball over three times.
