FORT MYERS, Fla. — David Ortiz’s popularity is at an all-time high.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that simple fact, as popularity tends to be a side effect of winning three World Series. But there’s been a distinct buzz surrounding Ortiz at Boston Red Sox spring training, with fans clamoring for a glimpse of the nine-time All-Star wherever he goes at JetBlue Park.
Ortiz once again played to the crowd Sunday, even taking a selfie with a fan on the bench at one of Fenway South’s six fields. The real hysteria, however, came when the rope was lifted and several fans were able to approach Ortiz for autographs.
