Matt Barnes Brings Heat Versus David Ortiz, Mike Carp During Live BP (Video)

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Boston Red Sox have to feel good about their current starting pitching situation.

Not only do the Red Sox have a strong major league rotation, but they also have several minor league hurlers who could factor into Boston’s big league plans as soon as 2014. Matt Barnes, whose 2013 season was split between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket, certainly looked worthy of major league consideration during a live batting practice session at JetBlue Park on Sunday.

Obviously, it would be foolish to get too amped up about one session. Barnes has a high ceiling, though, and his strong effort versus David Ortiz and Mike Carp on Sunday further showcased his immense potential.

Aetna Strikeouts for A Cause

For every strikeout by a Red Sox pitcher at Fenway Park in June, Aetna will donate $250 to Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. Through June 25, the donation mark stands at $30,000.

Through their continued efforts in the local community, Aetna is helping to build a healthier world -- one city and one strikeout at a time.
