Red Sox Participate In ‘Larry Bird’ Rundown Drill At Spring Training (Video)

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Boston Red Sox, donning their home white jerseys because of photo day, participated in rundown drills at Sunday’s spring training workout at JetBlue Park.

Third base/infield coach Brian Butterfield led Sunday’s rundown drills, which simulated various situations in which rundowns could take place. The workout even included the “Larry Bird” rundown drill — also used last year — in which Butterfield keeps the infielders on their toes by throwing the ball from various angles.

Butterfield called the shots throughout the drills, which included infielders, pitchers and catchers. Daniel Nava, who learned first base last spring and played the position sparingly in 2013, also participated in the workout.

Check out the video above to see some of Sunday’s rundown drills, including the “Larry Bird” portion.
