Austin Jackson, Stephen DrewHere’s a Stephen Drew rumor and a grain of salt. Take both.

The Minnesota Twins have “done homework” on Drew, 1500ESPN.com’s Darren Wolfson reported Wednesday. The Twins reportedly watched Drew work out over a month ago but remain a long shot to land the free-agent shortstop.

In other words, there might not be anything to see here.

The Twins have been considered a potential landing spot for Drew since the 30-year-old hit the open market, so this report is worth noting at a time when Minnesota shortstop Pedro Florimon is just getting into the swing of things after having his appendix removed in mid-February.

Drew, who hit .253 with 13 home runs and 67 RBIs in 124 regular-season games last season, has struggled to find a new home since rejecting a one-year, $14.1 million qualifying offer from the Boston Red Sox at the beginning of free agency.
