Wayne Rooney Scores Half-Volley From 60 Yards Against West Ham (GIF)

Wayne Rooney spectacularly climbed Manchester United’s all-time leading goal scorers’ list on Saturday.

Rooney scored both goals in Manchester United’s 2-0 victory against West Ham in the Premier League. While Rooney’s second goal moved him past Jack Rowley into third place in the Red Devils’ goal scoring annals, it was his first strike that grabbed the soccer world’s attention.

In the seventh minute, Manchester United midfielder Ashley Young played a pass forward toward Rooney, who was just behind the halfway line. Rooney’s pressure on James Tomkins forced the West Ham defender misplay the ball, and, when it bounced, Rooney smashed it over goalkeeper Adrian’s head into the goal.

The goals were Rooney’s 12th and 13th league goals in 2013-14. Rooney now has scored 212 goals in his Manchester United career. Only Denis Law and Sir Bobby Charlton have scored more goals for the club.
