After Clay Buchholz missed most of last season with a neck injury, many were worried about his pitching coming into 2014. When Buchholz started the season with four shaky outings, racking up an 0-2 record and 7.71 ERA before Saturday’s start against the Toronto Blue Jays, people were worried that his neck might still be bothering him.
But Buchholz was able to earn his first win. He surrendered three runs in the first, but Buchholz said that he was too “amped up” before the start of the game. Once he settled down, he pitched six innings of no-run ball.
