Boston Marathon Bombing Survivors’ Stirring Return To Finish Line (Video)

As the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing approaches, some survivors of the attack are returning to the finish line on Boylston Street — the spot where their lives changed forever — for the first time.

Photographer Robert X. Fogarty who previously has profiled those affected by the Joplin, Mo., tornado and Hurricane Sandy, recently used his “Dear World” project to spotlight these returns in a moving series of photographs and videos.

“Dear Survivors,” Fogarty wrote on the “Dear World” website. “When we asked you to return to the finish line, a place that changed your lives, we knew it wouldn’t be easy. You told us some days are harder than others, but that it’s okay to have bad days.

“Mostly you told us about the goodness of others. Colleagues who babysat. School kids who sent notes. Neighbors who cooked dinner.

“What happened that day was terror. Terror happens when love is absent.

“Boston is a city of love stories now.

“Thank you for sharing yours here. As you heal, know you inspire the rest of us to be better, still.”
