Pep Guardiola Welcomes ‘Awesome’ Liverpool Back To Champions League

Pep Guardiola is glad to see Liverpool coming back to the big time.

On Monday, the Bayern Munich head coach hailed Liverpool’s playing style and said he looks forward to the Reds’ imminent return to the UEFA Champions League.

“I’m happy Liverpool are coming back, because they are playing awesome and they deserve to be there,” Guardiola said, according to ESPN. “It’ll be good for the Champions League next season.”

Guardiola was speaking at his pregame press conference ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League quarterfinal game against Manchester United. Guardiola is looking to help Bayern become the first team to win consecutive UEFA Champions League titles.

However it turns out, the first-year Bayern boss expects to compete against Liverpool for European soccer’s most prestigious trophy next season.

Liverpool leads the Premier League with six games remaining. Barring a dramatic reversal of form, the Reds will achieve a top-four finish and return to Champions League for the first time since the 2009-10 season. It’s not official yet, but Guardiola knows a thing (or two) about top-level soccer.
