The Boston Red Sox bolstered their bullpen Wednesday by activating left-handed reliever Craig Breslow from the 15-day disabled list.
Breslow made three strong rehab outings in Triple-A Pawtucket, allowing just one hit and no runs over 2 2/3 innings. The Red Sox placed him on the DL on March 27 with a mild shoulder strain.
The Red Sox optioned right-handed reliever Brandon Workman to Pawtucket after Tuesday night’s game to make room for Breslow on the 25-man roster. Workman has allowed just one run while striking out seven batters in 6 1/3 innings pitched this season.
Breslow is active for Wednesday’s 4:05 p.m. game against the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park. He’ll look to add support to a Red Sox bullpen that gave up five runs in Tuesday night’s 10-7 loss to the Rangers.
