This season, Boston Red Sox fans have an unprecedented way to access game tickets, and season-ticket holders can unlock experiences they’ve only dreamed of.
Season-ticket holders enrolled in the Red Sox Rewards program will receive a card that acts as a ticket, can be used to make purchases at Fenway Park and is a way to earn points that can be used toward experiences like meeting players or watching a game from inside the Green Monster.
Rewards points can be earned by going to games, buying goods at Fenway and checking in while watching a game on NESN or listening on the radio.
The biggest reward, given to the two fans who rack up the most Red Sox Rewards points during the season, is an all-expenses-paid trip with the team. The “Fans of the Year” will fly on the team charter for an away game.
“Fans can’t buy these experiences, they are only earned by Red Sox Rewards members by earning points,” said Tim Zue, vice president of business development for the Red Sox and vice president of Fenway Sports Group, via BetaBoston.
Participation in the program also will eliminate the need for paper tickets. Season-ticket holders can load their game tickets onto their Red Sox Rewards card to get into games, and non-season-ticket holders can download a mobile app that serves the same purpose as the rewards card. The app can be used to make purchases at Fenway and digitally transfer tickets to other people.
The NFL recently announced a similar initiative for 2014 as a way to improve the in-stadium experience for fans.
