Spanish Minor-League Soccer Player Scores Major-League Solo Goal (GIF)

It’s fitting that Quique Cubas would score a goal like this during a FIFA World Cup year.

Cubas, a midfielder for Spanish fourth division club Arosa, scored a stunning solo goal in his team’s game against Cultural Areas.

Cubas received a pass in his own half, dribbled around or past three opponents, faked out the goalkeeper and finished his spectacular run with a well-deserved goal.

It reminds us of the one Diego Maradona scored for Argentina against England in the 1986 World Cup.

While Maradona’s “Goal of the Century” won the historic quarterfinal for his country, the stakes weren’t as high when Cubas did his copycat act. Nevertheless, Arosa won the game 2-1.

Cubas remains a long shot to make Spain’s squad for the 2014 World Cup.
