French Open Reporter Awkwardly Congratulates Player After Loss (Video)

Every once in a while, reporters ask professional athletes some pretty dumb questions.

It might be hard to find one worse than this.

After completing his match against Mikhail Kukushkin in the first round of the French Open on Monday, Nicholas Mahut went to the podium for interviews and was promptly congratulated by a reporter.

The only problem? He lost.

As you can see, things got awkward real quick, as Mahut understandably was not pleased with the reporter’s mishap. It’s one thing to miss a few important minutes of a match, but to enter the interview room not even knowing who won or lost is inexcusable.

Luckily for us, the exchange is pretty hilarious, and a New York Times reporter captured the full written transcript for our entertainment. At least someone in the room knew what was going on.
