Kevin Durant’s Mom ‘On Cloud Nine’ Since Thunder Star’s MVP Speech

If you got emotional watching Kevin Durant’s tear-jerking NBA Most Valuable Player acceptance speech, imagine being the subject of it.

Durant’s mother Wanda Pratt, who he called the “real MVP” during his 20-minute MVP acceptance speech on Tuesday, hasn’t completely dried her eyes yet, according to an interview with ABC News. She might even need to make a wardrobe adjustment when she attends Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals.

“I think I may have to wear shades to the game (Wednesday) because I have been crying ever since,” Pratt told ABC. “It was unbelievable. I am on cloud nine this morning.”

Pratt worked long hours at multiple jobs, including as a postal carrier, to raise Durant and his older brother in Washington, D.C. Although “finances were a little tight,” Pratt said, she and the boys were able to move into an apartment when Durant was very small. Durant shocked his mother during his speech when he recalled embracing her and his brother on the furniture-less floor of their living room on the first day in their new apartment, calling that the moment “we made it.”
