According to multiple reports, McIlroy delivered the news last week — in a three-minute phone call.
Wozniacki went on to drop her first match at the French Open, falling in a three-set upset Tuesday to 24-year-old Belgian Yanina Wickmayer.
“Caroline Wozniacki played tennis in a lovely old arena at Roland Garros yesterday but would rather have been in Belfast, asking Rory McIlroy to his face why he left her this way,” Neil Harman of The Times wrote after the match. “Except that the last time he called, less than a day after telling her how much he loved her, it was a three-minute conversation she thought was a joke.”
McIlroy, meanwhile, took first place at the BMW PGA Championship over the weekend — his first tour win since December. As good as he can be on the golf course, though, it sounds like he has a lot to learn about relationships.
