A’s Closer Sean Doolittle Vows Revenge After At-Bat Against Koji Uehara

Koji Uehara can sit dead red if he ever grabs a bat and faces Sean Doolittle.

Doolittle, who is having a tremendous season as the Oakland Athletics’ closer, was forced to pinch-hit Sunday in the 10th inning of the Boston Red Sox’s 7-6 win because injuries left the A’s without a designated hitter or any players on the bench. Doolittle grounded out to end the game, though he later joked on Twitter that he plans to get back at Uehara if the shoe ever lands on the other foot.

Doolittle has some offensive experience, having been a first baseman for the first four years of his professional baseball career before converting to a pitcher because of injuries. He last played first base at Triple-A Sacramento in 2009.

To Doolittle’s credit, he laid off an 0-2 splitter from Uehara. Not a lot of major league hitters can do that, never mind a pitcher who hasn’t swung the bat full-time in four years.

Koji might want to hit the batting cage, just in case.
