These teams played a physical and exciting game, combining for 31 fouls, 39 tackles and five yellow cards.
Honduras opened the scoring in the 31st minute with a goal from forward Carlo Costly. Just three minutes later, midfielder Enner Valencia equalized for Ecuador. He struck again in the 65th minute with the game-winner off a free kick, while in the process becoming the first Ecuadorian player to ever score multiple goals in a World Cup game.
The victory moved Ecuador into second place in Group E via the goal-difference tiebreaker over Switzerland. Ecuador can advance to the Round of 16 with a win over group leaders France.
The last two Group E games are scheduled for Wednesday, June 25.
