University of Connecticut center Stefanie Dolson finally got her chance to shine in a dance-off with President Barack Obama on Monday afternoon, but it didn’t go quite as gracefully as she probably would have liked it to.
While the UConn men’s and women’s basketball teams were being honored at the White House, Obama kept his promise that he made to Dolson last year, agreeing to participate in a little dance competition with the two-time national champion who now plays for the Washington Mystics.
“Stefanie, I did not forget that you challenged me to a dance-off last year,” Obama said. “It is going to happen.
“Don’t think that you’re going to beat me on that,” he joked. “I also appreciate that you told the world about it after the title game. I have daughters in junior high and high school, and for their sake, I will not be dancing too much while the cameras are around.”
But Dolson’s feet must have gotten a little too excited after Obama wrapped up his speech, and she took a spill off of the risers as they posed for a team picture.
Maybe it was just a new dance move she was practicing, but the two laughed it off and Dolson handled the stumble like a pro.
